Aristotle Book 2 Chapter 1
I thought that this treading was the most interesting because I love looking at word dynamics! I noticed in this reading, Aristotle refers to wisdom as 'phronēsis', where in out earlier readings wisdom is referred to as 'sophia'. Besides these and other cool words, I thought that the ideas set forth in this reading were pretty sturdy and well rounded. Coming into these readings I thought the ideas they presented would be be half baked at best because Aristotle and his peers were kind of inventing this stuff, so I'm always surprised when I read their works and they are pretty well defined and fairly standard throughout. I am also very pleased with the translation of these works, as Attic Greek is a really hard language translate.
I really liked your take on the word usage, and it made me look up the definitions. It seems that phronesis has a connotation of practical wisdom, as opposed to generic wisdom in sophia. I agree that the dynamics of the word play suggest a high level of discernment wrought though the dialectic approach with his peers. Again, great observations!
