William Covino, Rhetorical Pedagogy
I really liked that this reading gave a short-ish summary to all of the rhetorical eras that we have read through so far, and i will definitely be referring back to this reading when I need to review those things. I also really liked how Covino highlighted the change from the expressivist movement of the '60s to the more inclusive approach that grew in the '90s. I thought this was really interesting because as I look back, I can totally tell when some of my writing teachers were educated because they seemed to support the different ideas and theories of each year that Covino highlights in his introduction. I didn't even learn to outline my essays until I got to college and then a few years later, I had a professor suggest that I go back to freewriting first because outlining doesn't always work for everyone. Since, I have learned that both forms of prewriting have their place and I sometimes do one or the other based on the type of assignment and how much time I have to complete it.
